A piece of word .

Hello.
It seems like its ages that this blog has been abandoned!
So sorry for the bareness and emptiness of this page.
Well, seems as time really flies by in a wink of an eye.

Its that time of the year again, yess u guessed it right!
Its time for us, old hags (ok larh, we aint that old im just exaggerating.lol) to step down from our post.

It's been a great year for all of us.
All those tears, sweat and blood did not go to waste.
We put ourselves out there and really gave our best.
No doubt, we have made several insane mistakes, but hey who is to judge us? except God of course. :)
I believe those mistakes are the ones that made us strong and also helped us to survive all those hectic long-winded classes. (Ooops, I hope the lecturers are not reading this. :x)

So, before I stop blabbling here, here are some of my piece of advice to the next president and committee members.
P. S I am not implying that I am perfect and good, because the truth is I am not.
I just hope that if one day, he/ she face any struggles with any events or projects, he/she can read back this post for a piece of encouragement.:)
I would know how it feels to feel helpless at times, I mean after all I went through the exact same things you are going to.
I do hope that the next president will be able to carry on the good works that we have started.
Besides, I do hope the next president will be strong and determined enough to carry on their works with any circumstances.
Continue reaching out to those in need and impart your role in making this world a better place for the future generations.

A note to all of you,
Believe in this, "When the going gets tough, be tougher and stronger'.
Always believe in yourself although all hope may seem gone.
I believe that you will be able to overcome all struggles as long as you set your heart and mind at the right place.
The key is to have a determined will in achieving your goals.

To my outgoing committee,
I truly appreciate each and every one of you.
I would like to thank you for everything that you have contributed in helping to make CATCH club a great experience for early childhood educators.

Once again, thank you. I am indeed going to miss all memories we shared together. :)

That's all for today!

hearts&kisses,

kerryn lum.

30 Hour Famine

On the 23rd and 24th of August 2008, the C.A.T.C.H club organised a 30 Hour Famine in our own college in conjunction with the 30 Hour Famine organised by World Wision Malaysia. World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

This year, the C.A.T.C.H Club organized our own unique camp and together with its 40 over enthusiastic members who participated in the 30 Hour Famine, fasted together for 30 hours(Yes, 30 full hours!!!)...and together we learnt, and felt the lives of children around the world who live in poverty.

For the first 26 hours in the college, while fasting, the participants took part in a lot of exciting and insightful activities. There were the 3 main challenges - food, home and medical. Through these challenges, we learnt about global poverty issues. Towards the end of the first day, we had our very own 'Saturday Night Live' where the teams ( and the organising committee) came up with their very creative sketches. The night was filled with laughter and tears(from laughing too hard) and it was a great way to end the night.

The next day, it was a more relaxed time as we all prepared to make our way to the Bukit Jalil Satudium where the last 4 hours were spent at a star-studded Famine Countdown event, where we broke fast together with Famine Campers from across the country!!!
The last 4 hours are spent at a star-studded Famine Countdown event, where we will break fast together with Famine Campers from across the country!!! It was an ardous task towards the end, where we struggled in the heat...and the pouring rain. But, nothing could stop our spirit! We kept our spirits alive by resting on each others shoulders and keeping each other company with lots of talk, laughs and lots of singing! Oh what cheer! And finally, the moment came...the countdown to the last minutes and seconds of the 30 hour famine fast! Through the hugs and cheers or "We Did It, We Did It!"...We broke fast on just a packet of Coco Crunch and a bottle of Soya Bean...(trust me, Coco Crunch never tasted this good in my life before!) and we could feel how it is for children who live in poverty everyday of their lives. Only that what these children face is far worse that what struggles we went through for this 2 days.

All in all, through this meanigful event and activites, it brought teams closer together, overcame obstacles and in the end, we witnessed tremendous strength, cooperation, creativity and leadership within the members of the various teams. Together, we learnt to appreciate all that we take for granted in our lives...and at the same time, it brought our faculty together, as new friendships were made, and old ones strengthened. It was a sucess, a blast, and it will be one that I (and i am sure, it is for many others too) will cherish for months and years to come!
